When the NBA restarted after the All-Star break on Thursday, the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks picked up where they left off.
The Mavericks defeated the Phoenix Suns 123-113 at home, with Luka Doncic scoring 41 points and Kyrie Irving scoring 29 points, with both teams winning their seventh straight game.
The Celtics defeated the Chicago Bulls 129-112, with Derrick White scoring 28 points and Jayson Tatum scoring 25 points.
Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 128-110.
Boston, the league leader, was behind by three points at halftime, but took control in the third quarter and improved their record to 44 wins and 12 losses.
The Mavericks trailed by three points at halftime, but opened the third quarter with a 16-0 run and never trailed again.
Dallas is now 33-23, tied with Phoenix, where Devin Booker scored 35 points and Kevin Durant scored 23 points.
“It's always tough coming back from the All-Stars. The first game is always tough,” Doncic told broadcaster TNT.
“It was a big game. We played against a great team and we showed what we can do. We just have to prepare for the next game and keep going.”
In Denver, Nuggets star Nikola Jokic became the third player to record at least one triple-double against every team he faced in the league.
Jokic played alongside LeBron James and Russell Westbrook as the reigning champions, and Denver, which entered the All-Star break with three straight losses, defeated the Washington Wizards 130-110 at home.
The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player finished with 21 points, 19 rebounds and 15 assists on a perfect 10-of-10 shooting from the floor.
“When I finish my career, it's going to be like a legacy,” Jokic said after recording his 16th triple-double of the season. Jokic was second on this season's list behind Sacramento's Domantas Sabonis.
He recorded 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists in a 127-122 win against the San Antonio Spurs at home, and is currently ranked 19th.
Curry reaches another milestone
The Warriors defeated the Lakers, who were without LeBron James due to an ankle injury, and Stephen Curry scored 32 points with six 3-pointers.
Curry, also a two-time MVP, added eight assists, becoming the first Golden State player to reach 6,000 career assists in the regular season.
Anthony Davis scored 27 points, ending the Lakers' winning streak at three points.
In Oklahoma City, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 31 points and the Thunder defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 129-107, moving one win away from the Western Conference leader Minnesota Timberwolves (39-16).
Brooklyn's coaching change didn't immediately change its fortunes, as the Nets lost 121-93 in their first game against the Raptors in Toronto since Kevin Ollie took over as interim coach after firing Jacque Vaughn.
