FSIS said no recall is required because the affected products are not currently on sale. Instead, the agency issued a health warning in case consumers put ground meat in their freezers.
If you have any of the beef products listed above, FSIS advises against consuming them. Instead, it should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
Although there are no confirmed reports of illness associated with this health alert, you should contact your health care provider if you feel unwell after consuming ground meat.
E. coli, a potentially deadly bacteria, can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Symptoms usually appear within three to four days after consuming the affected food and can last about a week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Severe cases of E. coli are most common in children under the age of 5 and the elderly, but anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek emergency medical care immediately.
In some severe cases, patients may develop kidney failure, the CDC notes.
