Multiple arrests have been made in connection with human body parts found in a Long Island park last week, investigators told NBC New York on Tuesday.
It remains unclear how many people were detained and on what charges. Two sources familiar with the incident said investigators are looking into whether a love triangle was the motive, NBC New York reported.
Homicide detectives raided a home on Railroad Avenue in Amityville on Tuesday morning, according to NBC New York. The house is about a 15-minute drive from Suthers Pond Park in Babylon Village, where six body parts were recovered.
NBC New York reported that state police confirmed that they processed another crime scene in connection with this incident at Bethpage State Park, about a 10-minute drive from Railroad Avenue.
The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office declined to confirm any arrests or searches, writing in an email that “we do not have any updates regarding the incident at this time.”
A student walking to school Thursday morning discovered a “severed left arm” in Suthers Pond Park. When police were called, they found the dead dog's leg and other arm at the scene.
The head, part of a leg, and a third arm were later recovered from the park. His body parts appear to have been recently discarded.
Investigators believe the body parts belong to at least one man and one woman. DNA testing is being conducted to determine the identity of the victim. Gang-related activities are also not excluded.
