WORCESTER – A mother and daughter were shot and killed in a horrific incident. ambush Tuesday afternoon in Worcester. Shortly after 3 p.m., two people in an SUV parked on Lisbon Street near Inglewood Avenue were struck by bullets.
Chasity Nunez, 27, and her 11-year-old daughter Zella Nunez were taken to a hospital, where they died.
Asked how many gunshots she heard, neighbor Linda Orcutt said, “I heard this. It was like nothing I'd ever heard before.” “Several times, maybe a dozen times, maybe more in a row. One after another.”
Worcester Police Department announced Wednesday night. an arrest was made in connection with the shooting, but did not provide details about the suspect. Police are searching for a second suspect, 27-year-old Dejan Belnavis, who is considered armed and dangerous.
“She was a little girl,” said Tyree Sims, a relative of the victim. “She was a little girl, and they were willing to do it. Look, look, you know what I'm saying? That's what upset me. They saw something and did that. It's ridiculous.”
Nicole Ostigui said her son, like many other children, gets off school that day. “I'm shaking. Even just walking to pick up my son today is pretty scary, especially after hearing the news earlier,” Ostigui said.
City leaders who condemned the horrific act of violence also mourned with the family. Worcester City Councilor and Deputy Speaker Christian King has met with Chasity and knows her family.
“This is a very dark moment for our city,” Dr. King said. “They must be brought to justice. It's clear that that's exactly what they intended.”
“The loss of life, the loss of these two precious human beings, a mother and a daughter. Yeah, I can't tell you how devastating this is,” said Worcester City Councilor Etel Haxiaj, who lives up the street. said.
Chasity Nunez is in the Army Reserve and leaves behind another daughter.
“When did it become acceptable to harm women and children?” Sims said. “When did those gloves come off?”
