As another offseason comes to a close, there are many ways to evaluate what teams have done to improve their rosters over the winter. But rather than trying to categorize teams as definitive winners or losers ahead of the Stoves season opener, I'm more interested in his one simple question.
How different are the current MLB 30 teams compared to what we were looking at in 2023?
Many of the game's stars change teams before each season due to free agency and trade activity over the winter, but that's not the only way rosters evolve. There are natural turnovers due to injuries, player growth and regression, and player turnover based on the preferences of the coaching staff and front office. Some teams have decided to rebuild. Others choose to change it back.
Additionally, each new season features a new cast of characters performing in new settings across the league. For each fan base, the daily contributors on the roster become the protagonists of the season. No matter how good or bad the team is, connecting with these players will be a big part of the fan experience throughout the summer and fall.
So instead of trying to determine which teams have improved the most since the 2023 season ended, we're looking at which fan bases have the most to learn new names and faces, and which fan bases have the most to learn. Think of it as an objective way to measure how much you can achieve.
So which teams stand out? Let's take a closer look here.
