(CBS Detroit) – Henry Ford Health has opened a new facility in West Bloomfield, as Emily Sexton, who was recently named CEO of the new facility, spoke about Michigan issues and the importance of mental wellness in a special episode focused on mental health. It plans to open a behavioral health hospital.
Sexton spoke about the hospital, which will open later this year with 192 beds for inpatient care, and described it as a joint venture between Henry Ford Health and Acadia Healthcare. His two-story hospital will build on the services provided by Henry Ford in West Bloomfield and will be an academic facility that will help educate future behavioral health providers.
Sexton then participated in a roundtable discussion with Michigan Health and Human Services Commissioner Elizabeth Hertel and former Detroit Lions quarterback and mental health advocate Eric Hipple.
Hertel, who is in his third year as state health director, spoke about the state's focus on behavioral health, noting that MDHHS has provided $360,000 over the past two years to help families access behavioral health services. He said he has invested more than $10,000.
Hipple has been an advocate for mental health and wellness, working with the NFL, the University of Michigan, and more.
The three leaders discussed how the region is working to help people deal with mental health issues.
