One Mega Millions ticket sold in the Garden State won what is believed to be the fifth-largest jackpot in the game's history.
Tuesday's drawing for an estimated $1.13 billion Mega Millions jackpot was won on a ticket reported in New Jersey, lottery officials said, but it was not immediately clear where in the state the ticket was sold. Didn't make it clear.
The winning numbers were 7, 11, 22, 29, 38 and Mega Ball 4.
If the jackpot is confirmed at this level, it would rank fifth in Mega Millions jackpot history. According to the Lottery, holders can choose to receive the entire jackpot in annual payments or receive the estimated $537.5 million in one lump sum.
Tuesday's jackpot win came seven months after the largest ever Mega Millions grand prize of $1.602 billion was won on a ticket purchased in Neptune Beach, Florida, according to the Lottery.
The largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history was a $2.04 billion Powerball prize won on a ticket purchased in California in November 2022.
Mega Millions officials said 13 other tickets in Tuesday's drawing won at least $1 million by matching the first five balls, including three in New York and two in Georgia. Two were sold in Florida, and one each in California, Colorado, Illinois, and Indiana. Michigan and Ohio State.
One of the New York tickets won $2 million because its owner purchased the optional Megaplier feature. California's prizes, on the other hand, depend on ticket sales and the number of winners, so California's tickets are worth just over $1 million.
This is the first Mega Millions jackpot since December 8, when two players claimed a $394 million prize in California.
Lottery players will have a chance to win another huge payout this week, as Wednesday's Powerball drawing will offer an estimated $865 million jackpot, making it the fifth-largest ever. According to Powerball, the winner of Wednesday's drawing can choose to win the jackpot in annual payments or in a one-time payment of an estimated $416.1 million (both before taxes).
The last Powerball jackpot was won on a ticket in Michigan on January 1st, with an estimated prize of $842.4 million.
There were 36 consecutive Powerball drawings with no grand prize winner. According to the Lottery, the odds of winning a prize in a Powerball drawing are 1 in 24.9, and the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
