Moundsville – The Marshall County Chamber of Commerce Business and Health Expo will be held at the Moundsville Center on Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event featured dozens of businesses, contractors, organizations, health care providers and more setting up booths at the center located inside the former Moundsville Jail.
There is no admission fee. Discounted food is sold on site. Vendors try to tell people about their products by handing out lots of free trinkets, swag, health checks, and more.
One of the booths set up by the City of Moundsville will also feature games like basketball and treats like popcorn.
Scott Rieger, executive director of the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce, said this is the 19th year for the fair.
“This is a showcase of Marshall County businesses and services,” Rieger said. “We'll also have a variety of characters, including Spider-Man and Disney characters. We'll also have giveaways and door prizes.”
At a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, Marshall County Commission Chairman Mike Ferro said the commission supports small businesses in the county. He noted that the commission allocated about $1 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds last year to help county businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible businesses can receive grants of up to $20,000, he said.
WVU Medical Representative Women of Impact nominee Melissa Burkett, a nurse, was named the ribbon cutter for the ceremony. She said that over the past month, she and others have been promoting women's health, stroke awareness, AED use, and more. They also raise money for the American Heart Association.
