For Luka Doncic, making NBA history is no small feat.
The Dallas Mavericks star on Saturday became the first NBA player to record a 30-point triple-double for the sixth year in a row.
He had 39 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds in a 142-124 win over the Detroit Pistons, surpassing Los Angeles Clippers guard Russell Westbrook's record of five consecutive 30-point triple-doubles.
Additionally, Doncic is currently on a streak of five consecutive triple-doubles with 35 or more points. Westbrook and NBA legend Oscar Robertson both have three, while fellow Clipper James Harden has two.
Doncic, 25, went to the bench in the final minutes of Saturday night's win, and his second-half outburst helped give the Mavericks a comfortable lead.
He enjoyed the rest of the game, trying on his teammates' sports glasses.
Kyrie Irving contributed 21 points and five assists in Dallas' victory, Daniel Gafford and Tim Hardaway Jr. both scored 17 points, and Derrick Jones Jr. contributed 12 points.
“This shows you the level he's playing at right now,” Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said of Doncic after the win. “He knows he can score the ball, he can find his teammates and he can rebound the ball at the end.
Kidd has been getting pretty creative with his praise of Doncic lately. In January, he said the Slovenian star was the Mavericks' best franchise player, adding that he's in the GOAT conversation with Michael Jordan.
After Doncic became the first player in NBA history to achieve that milestone, Triple-double with 35 points or more in 4 consecutive games Kidd said during Thursday's 114-108 win over the Miami Heat that Doncic is “as rare as Picasso.”
Saturday's win marked the Mavericks' second straight win and a positive trend after three straight losses.
It was the Pistons' 10th loss in 12 games. Detroit's third-year leader, Cade Cunningham, had 33 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds, but teammate Orser Thompson was sidelined with an illness.
Doncic and the Mavericks, who sit eighth in the Western Conference, will return to action on Monday against the Chicago Bulls.
