U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on Sunday issued a stark warning about the need for more aid to Ukraine, vowing to “not abandon” our European allies.
Speaking after returning from a visit to the war-torn country, Schumer said this year was a “watershed moment in the history of the world,” adding that a loss to Ukraine to Russia would have “catastrophic consequences for the United States.” He added that it would be.
“This is a turning point, a turning point in the ability of the United States to project its strength, its power, its capabilities to the world,” he said, adding, “When we went there, we said to the Ukrainian people: .America will not abandon you.”
Main areas needed: The Senate majority leader cited several key areas where Ukraine needs more supplies, including more artillery shells, more weapons to disrupt Russia's supply chain, and more anti-aircraft weapons. It was detailed that there is.
Schumer cited several examples of Ukraine struggling to fight the war, including being able to identify Russian artillery but no longer having the ammunition to destroy it. He cited things like meeting a Ukrainian drone operator.
Schumer also said that Russian forces can fire for much longer than Ukrainian artillery can fire back.
“The Russians can stand further back and attack the Ukrainians, but the Ukrainians cannot fight back,” he said.
Remember: House Speaker Mike Johnson is ramping up pressure to bring Ukraine aid to a vote after Schumer and the Senate passed a $60 billion aid package. But he has so far resisted calls to do so, risking a possible revolt from members of his own party.
