Kelly Weaver, a local school teacher in Licking Heights, has been awarded the 2023-24 Learning Leader Award from the Licking County Foundation (LCF).
Ms. Weaver is in her ninth year of teaching and currently works as a Title 1 reading specialist at North Elementary School. In her role, she provides intensive reading support and learning strategies to small specialized groups of students.
North Elementary Principal Brandi Wade nominated Weaver for the award, saying, “Kelly is innovative and always puts her students first. She is kind and has a quick sense of humor that makes her easy to relate to. It makes sense for students who want to build. When students are facing challenges, she digs deeper into the root cause, whether it's social, emotional, developmental, cognitive, or adaptive. We know how to find out and reach each student most effectively.”
Although Weaver only joined Licking Heights two years ago, Wade said she has made significant progress in student learning and cumulative assessment and has quickly become an integral part of the team. In particular, Wade praised Weaver's strategic and innovative thinking about student engagement, his willingness to support and collaborate with his colleagues, and his commitment to developing himself professionally.
“Kelly's hard work, easy-going personality and dedication have earned her the respect of her colleagues,” Wade said. “Kelly's enthusiasm for life, her quick smile, and her easygoing laugh draw others to her, no matter how big or small.”
LCF created the Leaders for Learning Award in 1993 to promote excellence in public education and recognize exemplary teachers in Licking County, according to the LCF website.
The program's goals are to “identify and recognize teachers who exemplify excellence in teaching, provide opportunities for teachers to participate in professional growth activities, support their classroom efforts, and Encourage teachers to work together to improve their teaching abilities. Quality of education in the community. ”
