After 10 league games without a win, Ross County fans could be forgiven for forgetting what victory feels like.
However, Josh Sims' stoppage-time winner secured a crucial 3-2 victory over Livingston, giving the Staggies their first win since December 5.
Don Cowie's team selection surprised many fans. Cowie's master plan worked to perfection throughout the first half, with Jordan White, Eamonn Brophy and Simon Murray all starting in a narrow front three to exploit weaknesses in Livingston's defence.
County's forwards caused all sorts of problems with their combination play and movement and Brophy's second goal was a perfect example of this. White and Murray combined, the latter finding Brophy on the right side of the box and driving his right-footed shot into the top corner.
The nerves of the home fans resurfaced in the second half when Livingston escaped the trap and halved the difference with a goal from Bruce Anderson. County have twice taken a two-goal lead in the league this season, against Motherwell and Hearts, but it was the same again as Anderson doubled his score with five minutes left to level the score at 2-2. It looked like he had done something.
It looked like Livingston would ride the momentum and win the match, but that was not to be. Following some great work in the build-up from Max Seef and Jordan White, Josh Sims found space and fired the ball low past Shamal George, sending the home fans into a frenzy.
This victory gave everyone involved in the club confidence. It was a demonstration of the group's character and cohesiveness that Don Cowie has admired in recent weeks.
It will be a big boost for Cowie to get his first win as caretaker manager in such an important game. It is hoped that it will build support and trust from fans and provide momentum for the club to avoid relegation.
