Deshaun Foster has been an excellent running backs coach, but he lacks play-calling experience and will be UCLA's least experienced head coach as the Bruins move to the Big Ten. This sounds like just a money-saving move by both Martin Jarmond and Chancellor Jean Bullock.

UCLA is in the worst situation. And it's not because Deshaun Foster is a new coach. That's because they're in the wrong league. The same was true when Nebraska moved to the Big Ten. The once mighty Cornhuskers are now a mediocre football team at best. Deshaun, run for your life coach! UCLA's head coaching job is worthless.

I have a PhD from UCLA and am a long-time Bruins fan. Just to add, I love Deshaun Foster. He truly is one of the greatest Bruins to wear the gold and blue. But I have a question for you all. What other university in this country would hire as a head coach someone who reached the pinnacle of his coaching career by serving as a running backs coach for nearly a decade? Perhaps with the addition of an interim title? But what if we offered that coach a five-year, $20 million contract?

Congratulations on your promotion, Deshaun Foster. It was refreshing and encouraging to see and hear the enthusiastic support and love from the players, as well as a sense of wholehearted acceptance of the challenges that lie ahead.
They say you're too young and inexperienced. He said the same thing a few years ago about Sean McVay, the youngest NFL head coach ever hired. His first hire was to bring in Wade Phillips, a proven veteran and respected guru, as defensive coordinator to steady the ship while Sean got his feet on the water. . Perhaps he took a cue from McVeigh. They need an offensive coordinator, and it just so happens that just a few miles south of the 5 freeway in San Diego, there's a proven veteran and Super Bowl-winning offensive guru in Mike Martz. . I understand that he is bored.

Bill Plaschke mentioned the hiring of Terry Donahue in 1976, who had no head coaching experience. There's no room in his column to mention the four-game losing streak to USC and the heat it brought. My patience is running low. hang on! Eight consecutive wins against Troy! Bowl winning thread! Winningest coach in conference history! Weather the storm, Deshaun. It's coming.

Bill Plaschke and Ben Bolch don't report the news, they make it. They disingenuously characterize Chip Kelly's resignation as an act of betrayal. For three years, they constantly referenced the “hot seat” in every article, thwarted the hiring and retention of assistant coaches, and caused haemorrhage in the transfer portal. What kind of coach can succeed after such sabotage? Plaschke and Borch clearly believe that recruits and assistant coaches are illiterate. One wonders how Kelly was able to match USC's record without a Heisman winner last year.

I can honestly say that in my 67 years, I have never rooted for UCLA to win a football game. But I admired Chip Kelly's team's fight, how they never stopped pushing, and the camaraderie and class the team showed. The game turns into big money and all Chip wants to do is call plays and coach the football. Just because he doesn't do what you want doesn't give him a reason to hate him.
