The Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center will observe Open Education Week 2024 by informing the Arkansas Tech University community about open education resources during an event on Monday, March 4.
Open education refers to removing financial barriers to educational materials. The U.S. Department of Education defines open-licensed educational resources as “teaching, learning, and research resources that reside in the public domain or that are released under a license that permits free use, reuse, modification, and sharing with others.” It is defined as
Open Education Week was founded in 2012 by Open Education Global.
“OE Week offers practitioners, educators and students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of open education practices and be inspired by the great work being developed by communities around the world.” Open Education Global Part of the website says:
ATU Public Educational Resource Sessions begin at noon on March 4 in Pendergraft Library and Technology Center Room 300A.
“This briefing will include information on what open educational resources are and how students can take classes with zero textbook fees at Tech,” said Sherry Tinerella, associate librarian for public services at the Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center. It will include a presentation on the options available.” “We are planning a video presentation that will include faculty and student quotes, refreshments, and souvenirs. We will also have faculty members speaking about their experiences creating free textbooks.”
Arkansas Tech University's commitment to the open educational resources movement was fueled by a Leadership Tech group project for the 2022-23 academic year.
