The Lakota State Board of Education unanimously appointed a new member to fill the seat left vacant by the firing of Dalvi Boddy last month. At a special meeting Monday, the school board appointed Christina French as school board member. She is a woman of Lakota descent and lives in Liberty. French Township has 21 years of experience working in the public education field. Ms. French most recently served as Lakota's kindergarten through sixth grade curriculum director, but she left to pursue other interests and spend more time with her family. Ms. French was the principal at Hopewell Elementary School for many years, where she oversaw the school's transition from kindergarten to second grade. “We are excited to welcome Mrs. French to the Lakota School Board,” said Board Chair Julie Shafer. “Her extensive experience will enhance our ability to best serve the students, staff, families and communities of Lakota local schools.” The board announced Monday that 11 people applied for the position. I interviewed people. French's first meeting will take place on April 2nd. Last month, the board voted to fire controversial board member Boddy after declaring his excuse for a 90-day absence “insufficient.” Mr. Boddy has been serving on the Board of Education since 2021. The Butler County Sheriff's Office issued Bodie with a civil protection order for her. The person listed in her custody is Isaac Addy, also a member of the Lakota Board of Education, the sheriff's office said. In November, Boddy was issued a citation for violating her protective order by attending a meeting with Lakota Central staff where a protected person was present. Last year, a former superintendent accused Boddy of creating a hostile work environment, leading to her resignation.
