The Los Angeles Lakers are working to correct multiple typos related to the Kobe Bryant statue outside Crypto.com Arena that were revealed ahead of their Feb. 8 game against the Denver Nuggets.
“We have been aware of this issue for several weeks and are already working to fix it immediately,” a team spokesperson told The Athletic's Jovan Buha.
Buha pointed out four typos.
- Von Wafer's name is spelled “Vom Wafer”.
- Jose Calderon's name is spelled “Jose Calderson”
- Mistaken decision as “decision” twice in “Coach's Decision”
The Lakers did not release a revised schedule.
The statue included a box score from a 2006 game in which Bryant scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors, which contained a typo.
The Hall of Famer points to a fan inside a statue surrounded by the five trophies he won during his legendary career. It also includes Bryant's quote, “Leave your game better than you found it. And when it's time to leave, leave a legacy.”
Kobe's widow, Vanessa Bryant, said there will eventually be three statues of Bryant outside the stadium, one of which will include his daughter Gianna.
The statue unveiling took place before the game, which the Lakers lost 114-106. The Denver Nuggets, who swept the purple and gold in last season's Western Conference Finals, swept Los Angeles in three regular season games this year.
Bryant played all 20 NBA seasons with the Lakers, earning five championships, two NBA Finals MVPs, one league MVP, 18 All-Star selections, 15 All-NBA selections, and two scoring titles.
