Ketchikan High School students participated in a statewide walkout to protest Gov. Mike Dunleavy's veto of Senate Bill 140, a bipartisan state education policy that would significantly increase state education funding for the first time in nearly a decade. .
More than 130 students surrounded the school and took to the streets holding placards calling on the governor to increase the basic student quota.
In response to similar student strikes across the state on April 4, Governor Dunleavy released a statement saying he supports increasing the BSA and allowing students to exercise their First Amendment rights. , “Money alone will not improve educational outcomes in Alaska.''
