GREAT BEND, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Wetlands Education Center, located at 592 Kansas Highway 156 Northeast in Great Bend, will host a solar eclipse viewing party on Monday, April 8 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.
KWEC said: “While we may not be able to experience totality in our location, viewers will still be treated to a rare and spectacular sight as the moon will obscure 82.5 percent of the sun.” .
KWEC says the eclipse viewing party will be educational and fun for all ages.
“Attendees look forward to participating in games, science experiments, refreshments, crafts, and safe viewing opportunities,” KWEC said.
Activities include a variety of safe viewing techniques, a learning session about the phases of the moon with sweet treats, a discussion about animal behavior during an eclipse, and making a UV bead bookmark or eclipse necklace as a keepsake. Includes craft sessions and more. Lawn games and eclipse-related videos will also be shown in the auditorium.
The Great Bend Noon Lions Club donated 300 solar eclipse glasses to be distributed to participants on the day of the event. KWEC will remind everyone not to stare directly into the sun to avoid eye damage.
We recommend bringing a lawn chair and lunch.
