LOS ANGELES — Jordan Spieth was disqualified after Friday's second round of the Genesis Invitational for incorrectly signing his scorecard.
Spieth, a three-time major champion, signed for par on the 245-yard par-3 fourth hole at Riviera Country Club, but missed his 5-foot par putt and made bogey.
Spieth, who finished his opening round with a 5-under 66 on Thursday, regressed until Friday when he shot a 2-over 73 and was disqualified.
After suffering a double bogey on the 18th hole, dropping him to 3 under for the tournament, Spieth immediately fist-bumped his partner and caddy and sprinted up the stairs to the Riviera clubhouse.
Earlier in the day, Sky Sports reported that Spieth was not feeling well.
In 2022, Spieth was disqualified from the JP McManus Pro-Am for scooping up the ball on the 14th green before holing out. Spieth didn't think he needed to finish the hole because his score wouldn't count toward the team's. However, the Pro-Am also has a leaderboard for individual pros, and Spieth was disqualified because he did not hole out.
So far this season, Spieth has two top-10 finishes, including a third-place finish at Sentry in Hawaii. Friday's round of 73 was Spieth's worst round of the season and his only second round of 2024 in the 70s.
