The best part about rock bottom is the bottom part. It has no delusions of its own adequacy and knows its friends are Antarctica, the 1997-98 Denver Nuggets, and “Tiger Blood” Charlie Sheen.
The worst part is the rocks. Or in this case, the Rocky Mountains. They are playing baseball so badly that there is growing suspicion that they are playing worse than any team in modern baseball history. For 64 years, that honor has gone to the 1962 Mets.
As for the Rockies, it's not a dramatic failure. They are commonplace in their horror. They're not particularly good at pitching, they're not particularly good at hitting, and if that doesn't make them any weaker, they run the bases like they're being chased by bees.
The Rockies woke up Saturday with an 8-24 record. They are on track for 40 wins. The Mets finished with 40 wins and 162 losses. It was an expansion team. What is Rocky's excuse? They think of themselves as a draft and development organization, but drafting and development doesn't work. Brendan Rodgers has been the best player in the country drafted since 2015, batting .237 with one home run.
The Rockies are making up for their lack of strength by having the third-highest number of strikeouts in the league. They average 10 K per game and their opposing pitchers look like a mix of Nolan Ryan and Randy Johnson.
Colorado ranks last in ERA (5.79), hits allowed and batting average (.288). So it's no surprise that the streak ended on Friday, when the Rockies became the first team in history to trail in all of their first 31 games. Outfielder Jordan Beck and pitcher Chase Dolander are both great prospects, but don't expect them to save them from historical humiliation.
The Rockies talk a lot about playing with heart and working hard. These are phrases uttered by high school and college teams. As former manager Clint Hurdle was fond of saying, MLB is “not a league of effort.” It's a league that does good things. ” Rocky is no good. How bad can it get? It's time to start tracking them in '62 Mets.
Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley faces long suspension The NBA offered its condolences for his actions Thursday night. He threw the basketball into the stands twice, hitting a fan once. She then refused to answer questions from reporters after the game because she had not subscribed to his podcast. Maybe Beverly can translate the pod into Chinese. He's expected to play there until next season's All-Star break. …
Congratulations to former cornerback Chris Harris Jr. About his retirement. He was a charter member of the no-fly zone. Next stop? What about the Broncos' Ring of Fame? …
Abs grounded the Jets and set a record for goals in five straight games. More explosive than Independence Day. If Alexander Georgiev stays alive, anything is possible. …
Darvin Ham talked like a coach after Nuggets dispatched Lakers Who knew he was going to be fired. He was right. Ham is no Erik Spoelstra, but does anyone look at the Lakers' roster and believe they're better than a 47-win team? Former NBA 3-point phenom JJ Redick has been floated as a possible replacement. I'm sure it has nothing to do with him doing a podcast with LeBron James. It's a complete coincidence.
The NFL schedule should be released late next week. We will be rooting for the Broncos vs. Steelers in the season opener. Because, because.

So are we all just assuming Javonte Williams is cooked (in Audric Estim's draft)?

Running back Javonte Williams made an impressive return from knee surgery last season. However, in my opinion, his early return and rehabilitation came at a great cost. He averaged 3.2 yards per carry over the final 10 games. To form a one-two punch with Estime, Williams will need to regain the burst that allowed him to run with violent intent.
