Iowa vs. UW: NCAA Women's Tournament Final Four scores, updates

The madness is coming to an end. After two weeks of basketball, he only has two weeks left by the end of the night.

On Friday, No. 1 South Carolina easily defeated No. 3 North Carolina State in the nation's first semifinal, clinching a spot in the Final Four. The Gamecocks, led by Dawn Staley, remain undefeated at 37-0 and are one win away from a perfect season.

Next up is the night's featured game as Caitlin Clark and No. 1 Iowa State take on Paige Bueckers and No. 3 UW. Although the two superstars and their coaches insisted that this showdown is not about Clark vs. the Buccaneers, there will still be a lot of attention on the duo.

  • Iowa gave Caitlin Clark a double screen and she rewarded them with her first 3-pointer of the game. Kate Martin tied the score at the next position, but Paige Backers countered with her first 3-pointer. This is starting to look like the game we expected.

  • Iowa started the first half with a steal and a 3-pointer from Gabby Marshall to give Iowa the lead, but KK Arnold answered quickly to make it 34-29.

  • Iowa was trailing but went on a 10-2 run to get back within range and Paige Bueckers ended the first half with a layup. At halftime, he was 32-26. KK Arnold led all scorers with 10 points, and Caitlin Clark had six points on 3-of-11 shooting (0-of-6 from deep). It could get better for Iowa, but it could also get worse.

  • Iowa was 8-of-23 shooting (2-of-11 from deep) and had 11 turnovers (10 of which were steals by Conn). Now it's just a nightmare from top to bottom.

  • UW led 28-18 despite Paige Backers scoring just five points on 2-of-6 shooting. This was advertised as a battle of the stars, but it's the remaining UConn starters who will make the difference here (if only someone had written about it before the game).

  • Iowa State had very poor turnovers. They are currently down 25-16 and in the danger zone.

  • The key to this match is Nika Mule. She picks on Clark all over the place, preventing her from getting the ball, holding her to 1/5 on three attempts and no points. She drew a foul. And Mule herself has gotten her 3 twice, and she's already averaging over 6.8 ppg.

  • After the first quarter, the score was 19-14. KK Arnold, Nika Muhl and Hannah Stuerke all tied for the game lead with six points. This was probably the start the college union was hoping for, but Iowa is probably relieved that it was only five points behind Clark's start.

  • I think this is officially a tough start for Caitlin Clark. He went 1-of-5 from the field (0-of-3 from deep) and just turned it around. In college he won 16-11.

  • Clark winced at committing that foul. She missed both of her first three attempts, and University quickly jumped out to a 13-5 lead on two baskets from freshman KK Arnold. UW center Aliyah Edwards already has three assists, and Nika Muhl coming in early with three assists is great for the Huskies.

  • College got off to a fast start, with KK Arnold hitting Caitlin Clark with an and-1 to make it 13-5. Clark went 1-for-3 and scored two points.

  • And we're off. UW took the lead on a turnover, and Caitlin Clark scored the go-ahead goal to put Iowa up his 2-0 lead.

  • National Player of the Year and former National Player of the Year Paige Bueckers entered Friday averaging 22 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.4 steals per game.

  • There are 15 minutes left until tipoff for the UW-Iowa State semifinal matchup between Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers.

  • College great Diana Taurasi thinks Caitlin Clark wouldn't shoot the Logo 3 if she played for Geno Auriemma.

  • NC State was unable to keep up with South Carolina in every aspect of the game.

    • Camila Cardoso did her best early on and was then able to sit for the entire fourth quarter. This could be very beneficial considering she could injure her leg or ankle in the first half. She scored 22 points on an efficient 10-12.

    • Ashlyn Watkins nearly outrebounded all of NC State for the majority of the game. She finished with 20 points. The Wolfpack lost the battle 46-32 and 44-20 at points in the paint.

    • This would have been fine except that NC State couldn't hit from deep and made very few baskets. The team's overall shooting percentage was 32.2%, the second-worst performance of the season. And it was 6 of 23 on 3s.

    However, the Wolfpack started the season with an impressive run that made it to the Final Four under the radar. It wasn't the real Cinderella by any means, but it was still fun.

  • It was a victory for Siamese Cox. South Carolina defeated North Carolina State 78-59 to advance to the national championship.

    All-America center Camila Cardoso sparked South Carolina's dominant effort. She finished her game with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks while playing the entire fourth quarter of the big win. Ashlyn Watkins grabbed 20 rebounds off the bench as South Carolina dominated the boards with a 46-32 advantage. The Shamcocks used a balanced inside-out attack, making 8 of 19 (42.1%) threes.

    The Shamcocks, currently 37-0, are just one win away from having a perfect championship season.

    Next, Iowa State and UW will face off for the right to play South Carolina in the title game.

  • Raven Johnson had just returned from his locker to the bench without limping. It's doubtful we'll see her again with South Carolina leading 74-54 in the final two minutes. Her status will be closely watched as Sunday's championship game approaches.

  • South Carolina's Raven Johnson just left the court and headed to the locker room. Although she appeared to be walking without issue, she held her right thigh as she exited the court. The Shamcocks were in complete control midway through the fourth inning, but concerns remain with Sunday's championship game just around the corner.
