Maria Sakkari defeated US Open champion Coco Gauff in a rain-damaged match and will now face world number one Iga Swiatek in the Indian Wells final.
Greece's Sakkari fell behind 5-2 in the second set but rallied to defeat third-seeded Gauff 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2.
Laine also stopped play midway through the first set and at the beginning of the second in California.
Poland's Swiatek defeated Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk 6-2, 6-1 in just 65 minutes.
Sunday's final will be a rematch of the marquee match from 2022, which Swiatek won in straight sets.
Swiatek is aiming for his second title of the year after winning the Qatar Open, while Sakkari is aiming for his first.
Swiatek has yet to drop a set this tournament, but Sakkari had to hang on until the end against American Gauff, missing three match points in the second set.
Gauff dominated the resulting tiebreak, breaking in the first game of the third set before Sakkari rallied.
The ninth seed quickly bailed out the break and won four straight to take a 4-1 lead.
Gauff served to stay in the match from a 5-2 deficit, but was unable to stop Sakkari despite preventing another match point.
“I don't want to disrespect Coco, but it would have been great if this match had been over an hour earlier,” Sakkari joked after the match.
“Coco is a really great opponent. I'm really happy to be here again in the final.”
In the men's draw, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will face Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner in the best four from 7pm Japan time, followed by last year's runner-up Daniil Medvedev in the second semifinal. He will face home favorite Tommy Paul.
Elsewhere, world No. 1 Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Miami Open, which begins on March 20th.
The Serbian player, who lost in the third round at Indian Wells to Italian Luca Nardi, said he has to be selective about the tournaments he plays.
“Unfortunately, I will not be playing in the Miami Open this year,” Djokovic wrote in X. “At this stage in my career, I'm still balancing my personal and professional schedules. It's a shame I won't be able to have some experiences.” The best and most passionate fans in the world. ”
