Sana, India Today Group's AI news anchor, has won the International News Media Association's (INMA) Global Media Award for 2024 for AI-led newsroom transformation.
India Today Group was adjudged the best company in South Asia for 'AI-led Newsroom Transformation' while its human-collaborative AI anchor Sana ranked first among domestic brands for 'Best use of AI in a customer-facing product'.
“The 2024 Global Media Awards really highlighted the need for news media companies to think outside the box to connect with readers in a time of disruption and news avoidance. Not surprisingly, this class of winners contains some of the most innovative work we've seen,” INMA Executive Director and CEO Earl J. Wilkinson noted.
India Today Group launched India's first AI anchor, “Sana,” in March 2023.
“Sana boasts of diverse functionality and excels in multilingual communication with almost no learning curve. Notably, Sana seamlessly transitions across different topics and formats without succumbing to fatigue, catering to the dynamic demands of our newsroom,” a statement from India Today Group said.
“In a remarkably short space of time, Sana the AI anchor has garnered widespread media acclaim, become a catalyst for increased audience engagement and differentiated content, and cemented its position as a revolutionary force in the media industry,” a company spokesperson said.
The 2024 Global Media Awards attracted 771 multi-platform entries from 245 market-leading news media brands across 43 countries, competing across a range of sections including news brand innovation and best practices, media features, subscription, product, advertising and commerce usage optimisation, artificial intelligence and newsroom innovation.
The award ceremony took place at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
