LINCOLN — University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty officially admitted to teacher education programs for the 2023-2024 academic year at the inaugural Teacher Education Conference held April 5 in Carolyn Pope Edwards Hall. 234 students were recognized.
The event included two ceremonies for students who enrolled last fall and those who enrolled this spring.
“We aim to advance education and the status of educators,” said Nick Pace, acting dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences. “Teachers are truly the gateway to the world we want to live in, and we want to respect that. Everyone, regardless of their station in life, recognizes a teacher who has had a profound impact on their life. I can list them.”
The students were formally recognized at a convocation ceremony and were awarded commemorative pins symbolizing one step closer to a professional career as an educator. Marilyn Moore, a longtime educator who received her bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from CEHS, served as the keynote speaker for both ceremonies.

“Pay attention to why you're doing this,” Moore says. “Build your own sense of purpose. In the business world, we now call it 'knowing your why.' That mission is what supports you in your work. On really tough days, it's so important to remember your “why.” Because that's what drives you forward. The next day after a hard day, it's what energizes you to head to class. I want it to be built in a way that energizes me and affirms my work in a positive way. ”
