The House Education Committee sent a letter to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on Friday morning asking the school to turn over records related to anti-Semitism on campus as it expands its investigation into the issue.
Board Chair Virginia Fox, RN.C., began her letter to MIT President Sally Kornbluth and MIT Corporation Chairman Mark Gorenberg by stating that the members of the school's “response to anti-Semitism and He said he is investigating the “failure to protect students.” We are gravely concerned about MIT's inadequate response to anti-Semitism on campus. ”
The committee asked MIT to provide information such as what anti-Semitic incidents occurred on campus, disciplinary actions taken against those involved, information on foreign donations, and documentation regarding the admission of Jewish students. I'm looking for it.
In the months since the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel, anti-Semitism has skyrocketed at home and abroad, and several U.S. universities have come under fire for their handling of the issue.
In his letter, Fox said that in December, Kornbluth and the then-presidents of Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania came under fire for not directly saying that threats of genocide against Jews would be considered harassment on campus. He is referring to the public hearing.
The presidents of the remaining two elite schools have both resigned from their positions.
MIT has until March 22 to submit the information, making it the third of three formal letters the committee has sent regarding anti-Semitism investigations.
The Republican-led committee and Harvard remained at loggerheads during the investigation, with Republicans ultimately subpoenaing the school and expressing dissatisfaction with records submitted to it.
Mr. Fox continues to claim that Harvard has not provided adequate information, but the school maintains that thousands of documents it submitted are relevant to the investigation.
