Harini Sivakumar, founder, CEO and cosmetic chemist of Earth Rhythm, shares her inspiring story. She started her career as a banker, but when she found out her child had Down syndrome, she became a stay-at-home mom. Her quest to find products that are safe for children led her to become the founder of a startup. She started her business in 2015, setting up her own business and educating people about niche products. Her company has grown 500x in her 2 years, and in 2022 her customer base has grown 10x hers.
Harini was an average student with no special degree, but she enrolled in a company and learned about skin care. She attended several courses and developed new products. She has a master's degree in special education, advanced cosmetic science, advanced formulation degrees, and a graduate degree in retail management, which helped her relaunch her brand in 2019.
Harini's company, Earth Rhythm, has a zero-waste policy and uses natural materials. Her father handles finance and sales, and she handles manufacturing. The company manufactures her 160 products in-house and sells them through its website. Her most famous product is her shampoo bar. This is a bar shampoo without plastic packaging. The company has set a 2023 ARR target of 150 million rupees in sales and has raised nearly $10 million.
Despite facing many challenges, Harini's hard work and sheer determination have helped her build a sizeable brand and inspire others. She says if she can build a Rs 200-crore brand without any business knowledge, anyone can do it.
