ST. Martinville, Louisiana (kulfi) – Gov. Jeff Landry returned to his hometown of Acadiana on Thursday.he served as a guest speaker St. Martinville Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Banquet.
News 10 spoke with the St. Martinville native at his first speaking engagement in Acadiana since being elected governor.
“Our hope tonight is, listen, we can accomplish anything we set our minds to. Whether you're from a small town or a big city, the people of Louisiana are special. “I always believe that. It fits into the theme we've always said: This is one team, one dream, one Louisiana, and we want to welcome people home.” Landry said.
He said he hopes by providing more jobs and opportunities, people who left Louisiana will return to their Pelican State home. He feels he has so far succeeded in achieving that goal.
“It's been great. We have some members of Congress here today, and I think you'll see a lot of enthusiasm and excitement among them and the people everywhere in Louisiana. It's really great to join other states in the South. I think everyone feels like we have an opportunity to do great things,” the governor added.
Landry said her top three priorities right now are crime, education and jobs.
“Look, we're going to do exactly what we promised voters last year. We started tackling crime. It's an ongoing effort. We started working on education. We started this week. , we had a huge victory in passing the ESA bill in the House of Representatives. We're going to reorganize the economic development department,” Landry told News 10.
“We don’t go slow,” he joked.
The governor added that he is excited to return home to celebrate what has been accomplished and what is yet to come with the people of St. Martin Parish.
“It's not just the people who supported me. It's the people who raised me. They are the people I grew up with, went to elementary school and high school with, played soccer with, rode bikes with, These are the people I worked with and had fun with. It's really great to be back home,” he said.
