Google has unveiled Gemini, the company's most capable and versatile cutting-edge AI model to date.
Demis Hassabis, CEO and co-founder of Google DeepMind, introduced Gemini as a multi-modal model that can seamlessly understand and combine different types of information, including text, code, audio, images and video.
Gemini is available in three optimized versions: Ultra, Pro and Nano. The Ultra model boasts cutting-edge performance, outperforming human experts in language understanding and demonstrating unprecedented capabilities across a range of tasks from coding to multi-modal benchmarks.
What sets Gemini apart is its native multimodality, which eliminates the need to stitch together separate components for different modalities. This groundbreaking approach has been fine-tuned through extensive collaboration between Google teams, positioning Gemini as a flexible, efficient model that can run from the data center to mobile devices.
One of Gemini's defining features is its advanced multi-modal reasoning capabilities, which allow it to extract insights from massive datasets with remarkable accuracy. The prowess of the models also extends to understanding and generating high-quality code in popular programming languages.
But as we step into this new era of AI, responsibility and safety remain our top priorities. Gemini has undergone rigorous safety assessments, including evaluations for bias and toxicity, and we are actively working with external experts to address potential blind spots and ensure the ethical deployment of the model.
Gemini 1.0 is currently rolling out to a range of Google products, including the Bard chatbot, with planned integrations into Search, Ads, Chrome and Duet AI. However, the Bard upgrade won't be released in Europe, pending regulatory approval.
Developers and enterprise customers can access Gemini Pro via the Gemini API in Google AI Studio or Google Cloud Vertex AI. Android developers can also build with Gemini Nano via AICore, a new system feature available in Android 14.
