Dear students and colleagues,
Following a national search, we are pleased to announce that interim dean Gina Robasi, Ph.D., MPH, has been appointed dean of the Dana Dornsife and David Dornsife School of Public Health.
Since being appointed interim dean last September, Dr. Lovasi has skillfully guided the school through this period of transition, with a particular focus on communication and community building. Internally, these efforts include written communications such as the Dean's weekly newsletter, events such as the Population Health Spotlight series, comprehensive scheduling efforts, student government, collective resilience fellows, and Includes regular two-way communication with students through “Caffeine with the Dean.” event. Externally, Dr. Robasi hosts alumni events at the American Public Health Association's annual meeting, celebrates adjunct faculty inductions in the spring, and engages in peer networking and media events to support the school's profile and reputation. I also engaged in contact with She is the ideal collaborative leader to lead Dornsife SPH into its next evolutionary phase.
As an expert in urban health, Dr. Robasi's research agenda leverages both large-scale datasets and regional systematic data collection to address urban health issues surrounding health disparities, cardiovascular disease, and geographic environments. It addresses the above issues. Her research on the relevance of retail to health, policies to improve air quality, and urban trees and green space is widely cited and used in policy documents in the United States and internationally. For this research of hers, she received over $5.3 million in external funding as a principal investigator (PI) or one of several principal investigators during her time at Drexel. These include the current NIA-funded project, “Communities Designed to Support Cardiovascular Health in Older Adults.” She also co-directed her recent $12 million grant from the Wellcome Trust for the “What Makes Cities Healthy, Equitable, and Environmentally Sustainable?” project. In addition to publishing more than 140 peer-reviewed articles, Dr. Lovasi is the co-editor of the book Urban Public Health: A Research Toolkit for Practice and Impact (Oxford University Press, 2020) and is an expert on health equity. She is also co-director of the Global Alliance for Sexuality Training. Research (GATHER), a training grant funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities. She frequently supervises and lectures on epidemiology and urban health to graduate students pursuing MPH and PhD degrees.
