Ghana are set to reappoint Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars.
The 48-year-old will leave Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga, where he is the talent coach, at the end of this season.
Addo previously coached the Ghana national team in 2022, combining that job with his role at Dortmund.
He led Ghana to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but resigned after the West African squad was eliminated from the group stage in Qatar.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced on Facebook that Addo would be “offered a 34-month contract” with an option for a further two years.
Addo told Dortmund's website: “It was not easy to make this decision, but I am very grateful and happy that the directors of Borussia Dortmund have allowed me to take this step.” said.
“It is a great honor to take on the role of head coach of my national team.
“I already have a lot of experience in the role. [Ghana] As interim coach, I am looking forward to the job that lies ahead in the summer and beyond. ”
Addo spent his entire playing career in Germany, but earned 15 international caps for Ghana and also played in the 2006 World Cup.
The Black Stars have been searching for a new coach since Chris Hughton was sacked in January following their exit from the group stages of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
“There were some very talented coaches who applied,” said GFA president Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.
“This decision was made because Otto demonstrated exceptional ability during the interview process and was highly regarded by the search committee.”
Ghana will face Nigeria and Uganda in friendlies on March 22 and 26 respectively, and the GFA added in a social media post that Dortmund will release Addo as manager for these games.
Addo's first competitive game since returning as manager will be in June, when the Black Stars face Mali and the Central African Republic in 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana is in 4th place in Group I with 3 points after 2 games.
Meanwhile, Burkina Faso appointed Blama Traore as their new manager earlier this week, replacing Uberto Veld, while Norman Mapeza returned as Zimbabwe's interim manager.
