World champion Luke Humphries won the German Darts Grand Prix, defeating Michael van Gerwen 8-1 in the final.
Van Gerwen held his throw in the opening leg, but then suffered a heavy defeat as he lost eight shots on spin.
Humphries averaged 112.66, the second-highest average in a European Tour final, and took two 100-plus scores, including a 170 to win leg eight.
“You need these levels to win these days, that's how crazy it is,” Humphries said.
“I have a lot of respect for Michael and it would be great to beat him in the final again. To be honest, I love playing against him. He shows a lot of respect and the game is just It just continues.”
“It was a great final, but I was unbeatable.”
The 29-year-old, who received a bye in the first round, beat Luke Woodhouse, Ryan Joyce, Danny Knoppert and Gerwyn Price to reach the final.
“He's the best player at the moment. We all have to face him and get back to the top,” Van Gerwen said.
“He'll know it won't last forever, but he's playing some great darts.”
The event was the second of 13 PDC European Tour events at the 2024 PDC Pro Tour.
It was Humphries' sixth success on the European Tour, while Van Gerwen reached a record-extending 48th final.
Teenager Luke Littler failed to qualify for the Munich event, but won the tour opener in Wiese, Belgium, in March.
Humphries, Van Gerwen and Littler will be among the players taking part in the 10th night of Premier League Darts in Manchester on Thursday, with live text commentary from 7pm BST on the BBC Sport website and app. be exposed.
