Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' father, John Floyd, testified Friday that he taught his daughter to “hide the cash” in case she needed it.
“What I've always told my kids since they were kids is to always have some money,” Floyd said, “always have six months' worth of cash on hand.” He added that he had taught her.
The defense had questioned Willis about why he kept cash in his home that he claimed was used to repay expenses to Nathan Wade. Floyd's testimony supports Willis' statement that he was taught to always have cash on hand.
“Maybe, with all due respect, I don't mean to be racist, but this is about black people,” Floyd said. “I was trained, and most black people hide cash or keep cash, and I was trained to always have some cash on hand.”
“I gave my daughter her first piggy bank and said, 'Always have cash,'” Floyd said.
Floyd described a time several years ago when he was having trouble paying for a meal at a restaurant in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
“I had an American Express credit card and probably a Visa,” Floyd said, adding, “I also had a lot of so-called traveler's checks.”
“For whatever reason, this guy didn't take my American Express credit card,” Floyd said. “So I took out my Visa card and he didn't take my Visa card. So I took out my traveler's checks and he said, 'We don't accept checks.'”
“My wife's bill at the time…Fani and I were like $9.95 and I had a $10 bill. And I'll always remember that,” he said.
