GANSVOORT, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Due to lack of snow, Wilton Wildlife Refuge & Park has canceled winter rentals this week. Instead, visitors can participate in a variety of outdoor education programs suitable for all ages.
The activity is free, but registration is required. This week's program is:
- Tuesday, February 20th
- Animal Tracking by Saratoga Springs Public Library – 1pm to 2pm
- Go look for footprints in the wild and learn about the animals that made them! This program is suitable for ages 5 and up. To register, contact the Saratoga Springs Public Library at (518) 584-7860 ext. 303.

- Wednesday, February 21st
- Campfire Chat – Maple Sugaring! – 10am to 11am
- Want to know how maple sap is turned into syrup? Wilton Wildlife Educators will discuss the sugaring process over a campfire.
- Metropolitan Area PRISM Winter Pest Training Webinar Part 1 – 6:30pm to 8:00pm
- Join us on ZOOM to learn about winter pests found in the woods. Participants in the first part of the program will have priority access to the in-person portion of the training on Thursday.

- Thursday, February 22nd
- Winter Animal Adaptation/Tracking – 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- Curious about how animals survive the winter in upstate New York? Join an educator walk to learn how animals stay warm, hide, and satisfy their appetites .
- A family of owls roams the Saratoga Springs Public Library. – 5pm to 6pm
- Look for owls on this fun night hike and learn about what makes them such successful predators. Participants can take owl pellets home and dissect them to discover what owls are eating and identify prey bones.

- Fuyuki Identification – 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- Although the trees are still bare, there are ways to identify different species. Learn easy ways to determine tree species in protected areas with a wildlife educator.

- The second half of the webinar will be held in person. Participants will learn about winter pests found in the forest.

- moonlight hike – 5:30pm to 6:30pm
- A fun opportunity to explore the reserve at night and learn about wildlife adaptations. This program is suitable for all ages.
