Automaker Ford announced a large-scale recall of approximately 456,000 vehicles, including the 2022-2023 model year Maverick pickup truck and the 2021-2024 model year Bronco Sport SUV.
The company said these cars were at risk of power loss, which could cause the engine to lose power while driving, and urged drivers to comply with the recall.
According to Consumer Reports, losing power while a vehicle is in operation can cause serious safety issues, including the driver's inability to keep up with high-speed traffic, potentially causing a crash.

Consumer Reports says there have been 917 warranty claims and no known injuries or crashes related to the issues outlined in the recall.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a recall report that a poor calibration strategy to detect sudden battery deterioration could be part of the problem.
Customers are asked to bring their recalled vehicles to a dealer for a free reconditioning. There were no software updates available as of Wednesday, a Ford spokesperson told The Associated Press.
One user on the website Bronco Sports Forum asked if drivers could “safely coast to a stop” during a power outage, or if “the vehicle would lock up the wheels.” The situation was unclear, as the driver stated that he could not find anything in the manual that addressed this issue.
