ELKINS — Davis & Elkins College students gave presentations at the 14th annual Kamp Education Research Seminar held this week in the Kamp House Learning Lab.

Students from Dr. Scott Biola and Dean Melanie Gribble attended the event and gave presentations on: “The Science of Reading” and “21st Century Strategies for Evaluating Online Sources.”
“This annual event highlights some of the research that D&E students do both in their college classes and in their student teaching experiences at area schools.” said Nancy Bross Fregonara, communications specialist at Kamp Education Center.
“It's impressive how today's education majors, such as those participating in research seminars, are able to integrate their college coursework skills into real-world educational environments.”
Davis & Elkins students Kelsey Mahenes, Hannah Phillips, Hattie Pilcher, Anna Kate Oklaski, Marshall Mounts, Haley Shafer, Daimare Wilson-Turner, Hayden Wamsley, and Tori Webster are: Education-related research was presented during the seminar. Students' research topics include the science of reading systems, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and memory, skill building in autism, and how to evaluate online digital sources.
“Teaching methods are rapidly evolving and it is exciting to see how this younger generation of teachers is drawing inspiration from today's technology to enhance the learning experience for their young students. ” said Bros Fregonara. “Their enthusiasm to bring what they have learned into the first classroom where they will soon be teaching is contagious.
