Dharamshala: The two-day annual meeting of the Education Council and Advisory Committee from March 11 to 12, 2024 began early this morning at the Kashag (Cabinet) Secretariat.
The first session of the conference, presided over by Sikyong Pengpa Tsering, was attended by Minister of Education Tallam Dolma Chanra, Education Council Chairman Geshe Rakdol, Education Secretary Jigme Namgyal, Education Council and members of the advisory committee namely Additional Secretary were present. Tenzin Pema (DoE), Additional Secretary Tenzin Dorjee (DoE), Director of Education Ven. Tenzin Tsenrek alias Druk Tsering (TCV), Director of Education Dr. Passan Tsering (THS Mussoorie), Director Tsering Dondup (STSS), Director of Education Kan Tenzin Love Gal (Snow Lion Foundation), Professor Ven. Mr. Lakhpa Tsering (CIHTS, Varanasi), Professor Sonam Gyaltsen (CHTS, Sara), and Principal Nima Dhondup (Parkhan Academy).
The meeting began with a welcome address by Tenzin Pema, Additional Secretary General, Education Council.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Geshe Rakdol, Chairman of the Education Council, said that the Council aims to review the Council's goals, to develop a permanent education system, to expose students to Tibetan culture and customs, and to encourage teachers' guidance to help students. He talked about the importance of evaluating the impact that , and implements the traditional Tibetan education system.
Mr. Karon Tallam Dolma Chanra from the Ministry of Education then praised the council members for visiting and evaluating schools in Tibet over the past few years, including Mussoorie, Gopalpur, Kalimpong, and Bylakuppe. , virtual seminars for Tibetan weekend schools in Belgium, Australia and Switzerland will also be held. Education Kalon further said that the ministry looks forward to implementing similar programs in the future. The department also plans to standardize the Tibetan letter writing curriculum for Tibetan classes and set up a common exam for classes V to VIII, he said.
Mr. Sikyong Pengpa Tsering, the guest of honor at the opening ceremony of the conference, in his keynote address provided accurate data on the Tibetan student population and future educational plans in response to the declining number of Tibetan students in Tibetan schools. He emphasized the need to establish a Mr. Sikyong further emphasized updating the education system in accordance with India's national education structure and conducting online classes for Tibetan youth who have difficulty attending weekend schools.
