“Yeah, that's really happening.”
Those are the words of EA Sports, which released the trailer for the highly anticipated college football game on Thursday.
The developer has stated that the full reveal will take place in May, before the game is released this summer.
This is welcome news for gamers who have been eagerly awaiting updates since the game's development was announced in 2021.
But College Football 25 is happening. The trailer, set at the Rose Bowl, showed development footage of the stadium, helmets, uniforms and traditions, including the University of Michigan's Jumpman uniform and the Spartan tradition of slamming flags on the Spartan Stadium turf.
“From the Big House to the Bayou, here's a little update for our fans. From the Carolinas to California,” a spokesperson says in the trailer. “Yes, we're talking about college football. We know you love it. Us too. Rivalries. Comebacks. Traditions and superstitions built over generations. That kind of thing. No. As it turns out, we are also doing construction.”
This confirmation puts an end to speculation that the game doesn't actually exist and was simply a marketing ploy. Those rumors were featured in the trailer.
“Okay, let me address Big Al in the room. It’s not the only jersey out there.”
EA Sports developed a number of college football games for multiple consoles from 1993 to 2013, but halted development due to an ongoing legal dispute over the use of player likenesses.
Detroit Lions and Oklahoma State running back Barry Sanders and Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson were the last two college football players to appear on the cover.
Although the older video game series did not use the names of real college football players, the rosters closely reflect the real players in number and position combined with their general appearance and skills. Ta. An online update now allows players to add their player name.
Changes in recent years in name, image and likeness laws and tweaks to how the sport is overseen by the NCAA are helping to revive the game.
The new game will feature popular game modes such as “Dynasty” and “Road to Glory,” where gamers can create players and navigate their college football careers.
This is definitely one of the most popular games in video game history.
“A match worthy of the sport,” the trailer concludes. “Soon this place (Rose Bowl) will be full again. Cue the crowd noise until then.”
