SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Latin American e-commerce giant MercadoLibre said on Wednesday it plans to hire about 18,000 people in 2024, increasing its total headcount by 30% as it aims to expand in Mexico and other countries.
The company announced in a statement that this large-scale hiring will bring the total number of employees, excluding temporary and outsourced employees, to approximately 76,000.
“MercadoLibre's hiring plans align with the company's growing performance and will help it sustain its expansion with investments planned this year,” the company said in a statement.
MercadoLibre plans to employ approximately 8,200 people in Mexico in 2024, the most of the 18 countries in which it operates, and more than 50% of its workforce in Latin America's second-largest economy. This will increase to 24,400 people.
MercadoLibre is aiming to expand its business in Mexico, which became the company's third-largest market by sales in 2023 after Brazil and Argentina.
The company on Monday revealed plans to hire about 6,500 people in Brazil, where it generates more than half of its total revenue.
MercadoLibre, which also owns financial technology company Mercado Pago, said it expects about 14,000 people in Latin America to be in logistics roles and 2,500 in technology roles. Ta.
In Argentina, MercadoLibre plans to hire approximately 1,800 people, increasing its headcount by approximately 17%.
