PHOENIX – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District held its Spring Business Opportunities Open House on March 13 at the Midtown Hilton Garden Inn in Phoenix.
The biannual Business Opportunities Open House (BOOH) focused on fostering corporate partnerships and highlighting contract opportunities.
“The purpose of today's event is to create a dialogue between business owners and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,” said Eric Lavelli, Deputy Director of the LA Area Small Business Program Office. “This is our signature event that facilitates the process of working with the Corps. Attendees will be able to speak one-on-one with Corps experts so they can learn more about what capabilities are available through local industry. Find people, make connections, build business relationships, and offer programs.”
During the event, more than 375 business owners met with LA area department heads, program and project managers.
“Building strong, durable facilities for the communities we serve requires a team of invested stakeholders, sponsors, dedicated contractors, and dedicated service members. '' said Col. Andrew Baker, L.A. District commander. “This event brings all the right people together.”
BOOH had three clear goals. These include competitive bidding on upcoming projects, supporting small and medium-sized businesses in the region, and building partnerships through open communication with stakeholders.
“This was the most attended BOOH since the district began the event,” said Lt. Col. Stephen Brooks, deputy commander of the Los Angeles District. “It is important for leaders to build connections between contractors, the Corps and other partners to better meet the engineering and construction needs within our district’s area of responsibility.”
More than 75% of participants were small businesses.
“I think the Corps did a great job with this event,” said Gregory Cabello, TBCO vice president of construction and general engineering. “When I first came here, I had some questions. I was able to meet people who could answer those questions and network with other companies that I might partner with in the future.”
The event was also sponsored by the Arizona Acquisition Technical Assistance Center, the American Society of Military Engineers, and the Corps' Sacramento Small Business Program Office.
“This has been a very successful event,” Ravelli said. “I know it will impact our small business community and help the Corps achieve its mission objectives.”
The next BOOH will be held in Southern California in the fall. For more information about doing business with the Corps and the Small Business Program, visit www.spl.usace.army.mil/Business-With-Us/Small-Business-Program.
