The Common Service Center (CSC) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on Wednesday partnered with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to make e-commerce accessible to rural residents across India.
This initiative will enable CSC's e-Grameen app to be integrated into the ONDC network as a buyer application, enabling rural Indian citizens to access its vast e-commerce network.
CSC services become part of the ONDC network in two stages. In the first phase, it will be introduced as a buyer-side platform, allowing citizens visiting CSCs to order essential items through the e-Grameen app.
With over 400,000 CSC points across India, this will enable millions of new users to access e-commerce through their trusted neighborhood CSC.
In the second phase, sellers registered on the CSC platform will be able to receive orders via the ONDC network. This will increase entrepreneurial opportunities and income for village-level entrepreneurs and promote the vision of Gram Swaraj.
Mr. T. Koshy, MD and CEO, ONDC, said, “Together, we are working to support the creation of village-level entrepreneurs to increase rural incomes in line with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. “We want to take advantage of the promise of a home.”
Sanjay Kumar Rakesh, MD & CEO, CSC SPV said, Thanks to our relationship with ONDC, e-commerce services will reach even isolated rural areas. ”
