The Seahawks waived safety Jamal Adams on March 5, but he remains a free agent. This ended one of the worst non-quarterback trades in the NFL in recent years.
But did the Seahawks at least keep the door open for Adams' return?
Seahawks general manager John Schneider was asked about “monitoring” Adams and safety Quandre Diggs, who also remains a free agent, during his weekly radio appearance on Seattle Sports 710. In place of Adams and Diggs, the Seahawks signed veteran safeties Kevon Wallace and Rayshawn Jenkins to join returning player Julian Love.
However, Adams could play linebacker.
“Yeah, I mean, when we acquired him, that's what we were thinking, he was a man of will [weakside] linebacker,” Schneider said, via Bob Condotta of . seattle times.
According to Pro Football Focus, Adams played 518 snaps last season, but only 85 at free safety. He had his 183 in the slot and his 208 in the box.
Schneider didn't give any specifics on whether the Seahawks would be interested.
Adams will cost Seattle much less than when he arrived on a high note in 2020. In exchange for Adams, the Seahawks gave up two first-round picks and a 2022 fourth-round pick, which became defensive lineman Cody Bryant, to sign Adams. He signed a four-year, $70 million contract extension after one year.
Adams earned $50 million from the Seahawks, but never played a full season, appearing in 34 games and missing 33 due to injury.
