ST. George — The Utah House and Senate recently announced an official recognition award honoring United We Pledge, a nonpartisan education organization dedicated to promoting freedom, family, and faith across the country.
“The Utah State Legislature supports the commendable efforts of the United We Pledge and Liberty Village,” the official citation reads. “(and) his successor’s dedication to civic education through the Give Me Liberty program.”
The “Give Me Liberty” program aims to enhance history education for fifth and eighth graders and high school seniors in Washington County schools, with a focus on our nation's founding documents.
Liberty Village, Hurricane's 32-acre educational campus designed to recreate America's iconic historic buildings, is nearing completion.
Utah State Senate President Stuart Adams said, “The Senate is proud to recognize Dennis Levitt and his team in Washington County for their outstanding program.”
Dennis Leavitt, president of the United We Pledge, expressed gratitude to lawmakers for recognizing the program.
“We are grateful to our civic and government leaders and recognize their passion for education and their desire to help future generations in every way possible,” Levitt said at St. told George News.
Adams called Liberty Village an iconic space, and United We Pledge Marketing Director Lisa Hunt said, “Our program is designed to bring together notable figures from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.'' We are focusing on that,” he added.
The recognition also celebrates the construction of the United We Pledge Civic Education Center, which is scheduled to break ground this year with a groundbreaking ceremony at 13 Colony Plaza.
“Liberty Village will be an educational destination for youth and visitors who desire an immersive experience in the history of America's founding.” There will be an inauguration ceremony for the community and the children,” Adams said. “We look forward to visiting in the near future.”
Mr. Levitt added that he felt extremely honored to receive this award.
“'Give Me Liberty' is a passion project to give the next generation the knowledge and insight they need to become informed and engaged citizens,” he said.
First launched in classrooms in Washington County, the Give Me Liberty program has plans to expand to other school districts in Utah.
Levitt said having veterans and elected officials interact with students enriches their experience and fosters civic engagement.
The same goes for extending education into family life.
“As part of our efforts to engage the broader community, we are developing Give Me Liberty online educational lessons to provide a resource accessible to everyone,” he said.
United We Pledge wants to give students the tools they need to participate in shaping the future of their communities and nation.
