A Pennsylvania-based company has recalled its chocolate bars over concerns about allergic reactions, the Food and Drug Administration announced Wednesday.
Electric City Sweets of Scranton, Pennsylvania, recalled 1,644 Red Velvet Milk Chocolate bars “because the ingredients and allergen labels contained undeclared milk,” according to an FDA press release.
People with a milk allergy or sensitivity are at risk of experiencing an allergic reaction that can cause anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening. No illnesses have been reported as of Wednesday, according to a statement.

The recall began after consumers reported the problem to the retailer where they originally purchased the chocolate.
“Products containing milk were distributed in packages with the allergen listed on the front panel display, but the ingredient list did not indicate the mandatory presence of milk,” the statement said. It's dark.

Only two specific lots were affected by the recall. The chocolates were available through online ordering through the Electric City Sweets website as well as through wholesale accounts serving cities in Pennsylvania, Florida, California, and North Carolina.

Chocolate prices soared to record highs last month, with shortages continuing to put pressure on chocolate makers and consumers. Cocoa prices are soaring due to crop damage in West Africa.
A Reuters cocoa poll in early February predicted a global cocoa shortage of 375,000 tonnes for the 2023/24 season, more than double the amount shown in the previous survey in August. This is the third consecutive year of cocoa shortage for the market.
