April is Volunteer Appreciation Month! At a time when the world needs unity and support now more than ever, we want to celebrate the amazing volunteers who are making a difference in public health every day. This month, we spotlight the dedicated men and women of the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).
OKMRC is a group of trained medical and non-medical volunteers who are ready to act during emergencies and public health crises. From providing medical assistance at vaccination clinics to assisting during natural disasters, these heroes are always there when their communities need them most.
Not all heroes wear capes. Some heroes wear scrubs, while others offer a comforting hand or a listening ear. OKMRC volunteers embody a spirit of compassion, resilience, and service that make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of fellow Oklahomans.
OKMRC and the Tulsa Health Department (THD) are working together to strengthen public health preparedness and response efforts in the Tulsa region. Collaboration methods include:
- Emergency response: OKMRC volunteers are trained to assist THD during public health emergencies, such as disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and other health-related incidents. They can provide medical assistance, distribute medicines, and assist with logistics operations to strengthen THD's response capacity.
- Community outreach: Both OKMRC and THD are engaged in community outreach efforts to educate the public about health and safety practices. OKMRC volunteers often participate in health fairs, community events, and educational campaigns hosted by THD to promote public health efforts.
- Training and exercises: OKMRC and THD conduct joint training sessions and exercises to help volunteers respond effectively to emergency situations. These activities will help strengthen the partnership between the two organizations and strengthen overall preparedness.
- Sharing resources: OKMRC and THD share resources and expertise to improve public health outcomes. This may include sharing information, tools, and best practices to address local health needs and challenges.
- Mutual support: OKMRC volunteers can support THD in a variety of capacities, including staffing vaccination clinics, conducting health screenings, and assisting at public health events. This collaboration will help THD expand its ability to reach and serve the community.
Collectively, the partnership between OKMRC and THD is essential to building a resilient and prepared community that can effectively respond to public health emergencies and promote the health and well-being of Tulsa residents.
As we overcome the challenges of the past year and look to a brighter future, let us express our deepest gratitude to Oklahoma MRC volunteers and all volunteers around the world. Your dedication and selflessness inspire us every day.
Let's express our gratitude to OKMRC volunteers for their unwavering dedication to public health and community resilience. We would like to thank OKMRC for everything they do, especially for their excellent response and support during the COVID-19 pandemic. The partnership between OKMRC and THD is built on a shared commitment to protecting and improving the health and well-being of the Tulsa community. By working together, we can better respond to public health challenges and emergencies, ultimately benefiting Tulsa residents. Together, we can build a healthier, safer, and more resilient Oklahoma for everyone.
