Initially released for paid ChatGPT users, users on the free plan will now also have access to “Custom Steps.”
Custom instructions allow users to tailor their interactions with ChatGPT to their unique needs and preferences, making conversations more dynamic and relevant.
Whether you're a student looking for homework help, an aspiring writer brainstorming ideas, or a curious person exploring different topics, AI models take your specific instructions into account to create more relevant You can now generate highly personalized responses.
When users set preferences and requirements using custom instructions, ChatGPT takes these inputs into account in all subsequent interactions, eliminating the need to repeat instructions. This feature streamlines conversations and facilitates more engaging and productive interactions with AI.
Additionally, the integration of custom instructions enhances the utility of ChatGPT's plugins. By incorporating specific details provided by the user, such as location and preferences, the AI can seamlessly interact with the plugin and provide more accurate, contextually relevant responses.
OpenAI has adopted safeguards to accommodate the introduction of custom instructions. To maintain a safe environment for all users, instructions that violate our Usage Policy will be identified and ignored.
As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance model performance, OpenAI may use custom instructions to improve the functionality of ChatGPT. However, the company maintains transparency and control by allowing users to manage their data settings and opt out of this feature if they wish.
To take advantage of the personalization of custom instructions, users on the free plan can go to their account settings and select the option to enable this feature.
Custom instructions are not currently available to users in the EU and UK, but OpenAI plans to expand access “soon.”
