Monarch Landing, a continuing care retirement and life plan community in Naperville, Illinois, has launched Monarch at Home, a home health care program “for independent living residents who have special needs and wish to continue living in their apartments.” said the Monarch director. at Home Michelle Benton said in her Wednesday blog post.
The program allows residents to stay in their units longer, according to the CCRC.
Traditionally, residents have been provided with services through external agencies. But outside agencies typically charge by the hour, while Monarch at Home can provide visits as short as 15 minutes, which helps residents pay less, said Associate Executive Director Kelly Cox. It is said that it can save .
And “if one spouse needs support, that person can continue to live independently for a long time with the husband or wife,” said community marketing director Kimberly Giudice.
The program can also provide care companions to assist residents with outings, personal care, housekeeping, and other tasks that require assistance. “Because we have a nurse on hand at all times, Monarch at Home can also adjust medications and administer injections and wound care if directed by a physician,” Cox said.
Careful matching of caregiver companions and residents is also important, she added.
“When we meet with residents, we give them the background of the care buddies available. … We also ask them to meet with us before the job to make sure they are a good fit. And , we will preserve their mission to the best of our ability,” Cox said. “Our residents love it because they get to build relationships. Care buddies love it too because they know what their day will be like.”
Benton noted that caregivers are also Monarch Landing staff and are subject to thorough background checks and strict guidelines.
CCRC is owned and managed by Harrison, New York-based Senior Care Development, which is also an equity partner in Life Care Services.
Other CCRCs have expanded their services to include home care.
