MONTEVIDEO — CCM Health is launching a $2.06 million renovation project at its Montevideo clinic to improve health care delivery as the number of providers and patients increases.
CCM Health CEO Brian Lobdahl said work is expected to begin April 1, pending approval of the final permits necessary for the work. The estimated completion date is August 1st.
He said there should be minimal disruption to patients during the construction phase. The clinic is part of a medical campus in the 800 block of North 11th Street in Montevideo that includes CCM Health Hospital and an attached Veterans Administration medical clinic.
Once complete, the most obvious change for patients at the CCM Health Montevideo clinic will be the addition of new access and registration areas in the renovated waiting room. The registration and waiting areas are currently in separate locations.
The project calls for the development of three new provider offices and 11 state-of-the-art examination rooms. New provider space is badly needed. Lobdahl said people sometimes almost trip over each other. Some health care providers only have one exam room to see patients, Lobdahl said, which is highly inefficient.
The renovation will increase the clinic's overall square footage. The adjacent medical records area is being renovated as a clinical space. Medical records operations have been moved to vacant space in the CCM Health and Wellness Center.
This remodel is the result of a continued increase in the number of providers and services offered, as well as the overall patient population. The current clinic area opened in January 2008.
The biggest growth has been in orthopedics and gynecology programs and walk-in clinics. According to Lobdahl, he sees more than 60 patients per day in the three regions.
Over the past five years, CCM Health has increased its number of providers by 125% to 32 and continues to hire. Additional urologists and midwives will be added in the coming months.
The demand for obstetrician services is also steadily increasing. In the past three years the number of deliveries has doubled.
As the number of patients increased, the health center's service area also expanded. We see patients who travel from 40 or 50 miles away.
Specifically, this renovation project will improve and expand services in the Behavioral Health and Diabetes departments. The behavioral health department will provide him with five offices and more treatment space, but he is currently addressing some of the facility's more significant space limitations.
The diabetes education department is expanding and two new offices will be built near CCM Health's surgical areas to better serve patients, according to information from CCM Health. Lobdahl noted that diabetes care is currently distributed across multiple locations within the facility.
J & D Construction of Montevideo is serving as construction manager for the project. Local contractors will be responsible for the construction work.
“We are excited to put $2 million into the local economy and want to connect locally,” Lobdahl said.
