President Biden spoke about his key priorities in last night's State of the Union address. Among his key demands to Congress was $12 billion in funding for women's health research. In his speech, President Biden said, “Of course, women make up more than half of the population, but research on women's health has always been underfunded… Pass my $12 billion plan to benefit millions of lives.” ”
In November, President Biden launched the White House Initiative on Women's Health Research with First Lady Dr. Jill Biden. This initiative, chaired by Dr. Carolyn M. Mazure, will fundamentally change the way our nation approaches and funds women's health research.
“This investment call, which follows $100 million in federal funding for women's health research from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), is critical to transforming women's health research.” Director Mazure said. She is the Norma Weinberg Spungen and Joan Revson Bildner Professor of Women's Health Research and Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology at Yale University.
The investment will support a new National Institutes of Health fund and boost private and philanthropic efforts to increase funding for women's health research, according to a White House fact sheet. “These new resources are an investment in maximizing our ability to prevent, diagnose and treat women’s health conditions and ensure women get the answers they need when it comes to their health.”
