HOWELL — Trayvon Hoskins started offering to mow his neighborhood's lawn when he was 8 years old. By his 10th birthday, he had his own business card.
The community's attention is now on Hoskins, who is 14 years old. At the Howell City Council meeting on Monday, April 22nd, Hoskins was greatly appreciated for his contributions.
Through various donations, Hoskins received a Craftsman riding lawn mower, a Honda push mower, work boots and socks, business cards, T-shirts, yard signs, door hangers, and fuel for the entire season.
Hoskins was speechless when she saw the gift.
“I never expected something like this to happen. I'm very surprised,” Hoskins told the Daily.
Councilman Nicholas Hertrich noticed Hoskins mowing lawns in the summer of 2021 and was impressed with his work ethic and professionalism at such a young age.
Through the phone, the city collected donations to support his business, Trayvon's Lawn Service. Staff and City Council members, UPS driver Keith Ozment, Agape City Church, Byram Ace Hardware, Howell Western Ware, First Impression Print & Marketing, Hutson, and Mag & Bops. Participated.
Hoskins, a freshman at Howell High School, expressed his gratitude to the businesses and organizations. He said that from an early age he knew he wanted to pursue a career in the field of landscaping.
“I've always wanted to mow grass in the backyard,” Hoskins said. “I've seen all the other businesses take to the streets. I was hoping to find a job someday. I remembered this day.”

Hoskins said he uses Facebook to find customers. Last year, Hoskins mowed a neighbor's lawn for free when he was hospitalized.
Monday's meeting included a five-minute break so everyone in attendance could see the new Craftsman riding lawn mower in the parking lot.
Hoskins hopes to one day own his own truck and trailer and hire more employees.
“I've always wanted this day to come, and it's finally here,” he said.
