Actor and model Sam Asghari told People magazine that he harbors no ill will toward Britney Spears after their divorce last year.
According to Business Insider, Asghari was married to Spears for 14 months before divorcing in August 2023 due to “irreconcilable differences.”
In an interview published Saturday, Asghari spoke of the “blessing” of being with Spears, but said the two have grown estranged.
“It was a blessing to be able to share your life with someone for so long, and then people grow apart and people move on,” Asghari told the magazine.
Asghari told the magazine that she could not imagine the two of them “talking badly about each other” and said she never intended to disrespect her relationship with Spears.
“I would never do that, because I had nothing but great experiences and a great life. It will always be a part of my life and a chapter in my life,” Asghari said. said.
Asghari and Spears' relationship began in 2016, when Asghari co-starred in the music video for her song “Slumber Party.”
The couple began dating while Spears was under conservatorship. In 2021, Asghari publicly supported her as she fought her conservatorship in court. The 14-year legal guardianship ended later that year in November.
The two married in June 2022 and separated one year later on July 28, 2023. A month later, Asghari filed for divorce.
At the time, Spears said she was “shocked” by the news.
In an Instagram caption, Spears wrote, “Six years is a long time to be with someone so I'm a little shocked… but I'm not going to explain why here because it honestly doesn't matter to anyone.” “But honestly, I couldn't stand the pain anymore.”
A representative for Spears did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside of normal business hours.
